Drowned In Plastic - I CAN'T BREATHE

In 2020, it was reported that 1334 tonnes of plastic waste, equivalent to the weight of 92 double-decker buses, was generated from takeaway/delivery meals during the two-month circuit break period.

Plastic is not biodegradable and most waste end up in oceans, killing marine life. This artwork shows that if nothing is done, plastic waste will choke up the environment. We will end up 'drowned' in plastic.

Singapore, Clean & Green?

I found an old poster with the slogan, "Singapore, a Clean and Green City".

Recently the Climate Action Tracker pegged Singapore's climate target as critically insufficient, the worst rating on a 5-point scale. As I look around, I still see Singaporeans throwing things away and wasting electricity without a thought for the environment. Recycling is still not a way of life for many.

In this artwork, I used the old poster as a ready-made and added text and thrown away objects. The texts question whether we are green yet and the objects show that we have a long way to go.
